Position: Packaging Technologist

Location: Head Office based (Leeds) – significant UK travel between sites and suppliers (approx 1-2 days per week). Occasional overnight stays required.

The Company: My client is the UK's leading dairy company with a turnover of £1.15 billion, processing over two billion litres of milk a year and home to some of the UK's leading dairy brands. They continue to be the leading supplier of fresh liquid milk and cream to the top seven retailers making over 2,200 daily deliveries direct to stores nationwide. They are the market leader in milk and cream as well as leader in the butter, spreads and margarine sector, and a major supplier of other added value products including flavoured milk, cheese and yogurt.

The Role: Packaging & the Environment • Deliver packaging and the environment solutions in line with customer expectations. • Periodically present achievements and forthcoming actions to Retailers. Packaging Development & Innovation Projects • Offering technical support for projects involving packaging. • Deliver small-medium sized packaging development & packaging innovation projects with minimal supervision. • Actively participating in commissioning and trouble shooting, ensuring high quality and problem free production runs as quickly as possible. • Evaluating and compiling all needed technical documentation. • Technical review and sign off of artwork (dimensions, tolerances etc). • Support the Sales, Marketing & Retail Brand functions in packaging related matters. • Completing packaging trials, collating data & obtaining appropriate trial approval. • Assist the Packaging Manager and senior packaging technologist in key projects where required. • Completion of new packaging specifications. • Keeping updated samples of all relevant packaging materials. Packaging Optimisation • Assisting operational teams with packaging related troubleshooting. • Maintaining all packaging specifications in the packaging specification database. • Proposing and implementing improvements to packaging materials. • Actively seeking opportunities to improving our operations. • Ensuring that accurate information is available to allow the calculation of the Packaging Waste Obligation. Supplier Performance • Periodic site review meetings with suppliers to help improve standards and ensure KPI's are being attained and surpassed • Building strong pro-active partnerships with our packaging suppliers. • Follow up on non-conformance issues. Packaging/Artwork Design Changes • Sign off packaging artwork to required standard & timescale. • Attend print runs as required.

Requirements: • Degree in Packaging Technology or a technical discipline. • Diploma membership to the Institute of Packaging. • Full UK driving licence. • Self motivated and able to work on own with minimal supervision. • Strong computer skills MS Office.

Essential experience • Significant experience within food/beverage packaging. • Project management of small-medium sized packaging development projects.
