We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality / Continuous Improvement Manager to join our Hertfordshire based client.

Working closely with the operational team and reporting to the Production Director the Quality Manager will strive towards continuous improvement, working towards a lean manufacturing environment.

Acting as a key change agent the Quality Manager will implement new ways of working and bring about a sustainable culture of development. Ensuring corrective action, responding to customer complaints and quality concerns the role holder will devise corrective actions within the manufacturing team and encourage management to develop a proactive approach to quality.



  • Ensure quality system is effective through the maintenance and continued certification of ISO9001
  • Place quality management systems, review and act upon non-conformances ensuring preventative actions are tracked and closed
  • Report to senior management on the data from quality measures
  • Continually improve effectiveness of the quality management system through performance and metric management
  • Create and maintain a document system to allow senior management to follow defects and process improvements
  • Manage the customer complaint procedure, investigation of quality problems, identification of root causes and development of cost effective corrective and preventative actions to ensure the integrity of quality management within the business
  • Contribute to factory efficiency by improving the performance of supplied materials, and assisting production in establishing better controls over the printing/conversion process
  • Deliver training where necessary on changes to policies, procedures and initiatives aimed at improving manufacturing processes and quality.


  • Understand the applicable environmental legislation and maintain an up to date awareness of any legal changes whilst maintaining the accreditation of ISO14001
  • Report on environmental statistics and key findings senior management to enable them to understand and fulfil their environmental responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement an effective waste management policy

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify process and product improvement opportunities with the Operations Director and relevant members of staff
  • Ensure improvement objectives, goals, measures and metrics are established and followed for each improvement project
  • Work in collaboration with other sites and facilities to benchmark processes and identify best practice
  • Develop a continuous improvement strategy and improve manufacturing efficiency on all lines
  • Develop succession planning for key roles and individuals identifying areas of long term personal development within the operational teams
  • Develop manufacturing processes and quality assurance controls to reduce cost


  • Degree qualified in Quality Management or equivalent
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining ISO9001, ISO14001 standards.
  • Six Sigma or Prince 2 qualified with proven experience of delivering operational excellence and continuous improvement projects
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualified (desirable)
  • Certified to minimum internal auditor (lead auditor preferable)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the print industry, print processes and printability
  • Understanding of GDPR and its impact on operational functionality
  • Previous experience of writing and delivering training both one on one and to larger groups
  • Strong IT skills with a good understanding of Microsoft packages and the ability to manipulate and understand customer data

  • Dynamic personality capable of leading cultural change across multiple departments
  • A proven self starter with the skill to motivate others and lead, sustaining momentum surrounding deadlines
  • Ability to engage employees and encourage them to adopt new approaches
