Print Production Assistant


The House of Lords has developed an in-house facility to print hard copies of House of Lords documents for internal use. In 2015 the facility began the phased migration of document production from an external print supplier.
In 2016 the bulk of the migration was complete and the Reprographics unit now produces all the House’s core documents. Other opportunities to develop business potential will also be explored during a phased sequence of feasibility reviews.
The Reprographics unit is part of the Journal Office management team and is expected to support other Journal Office publishing projects and functions.

Main objective:

Responsibility, under the direction of the Reprographics Unit Manager for the operation of the digital production printers, operation of finishing equipment, housekeeping of the machinery, management and ordering of consumables, deputising for the unit manager when required and entering production jobs on the Management Information system.

Main responsibilities:

  • Working in a digital print room on rotating shifts;
  • Operation of digital printers;
  • Operation of finishing equipment;
  • Administration and housekeeping of the equipment and machinery;
  • Management and ordering of consumables;
  • Recording of work on Management Information System;
  • Liaison with customers and advising them on production queries;
  • Archiving electronic copy on the networked drives;
  • Supporting other functions of the Journal Office as required;
  • Ensuring clear communication about jobs between shifts so that there is an effective, efficient service;
  • Ensuring stocks of supplier and consumables are maintained;
  • Deputising for the unit manager as required

Person specification:


  • Proficient in skills required for working in a modern digital print environment gained from substantial recent relevant experience;
  • Proven experience working in a digital print environment, preferably using Ricoh machinery;
  • Good knowledge of print terminology and processes, specifically digital print;
  • Strong team player with demonstrable ability to work proactively and flexibly, and to respond to changes in priority;
  • Ability to work well under pressure, to work to tight deadlines and to meet strict quality control standards;
  • Good communication skills to deal with customers at all levels with confidence and courtesy;
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to recognise priorities and work collaboratively under pressure to meet strict deadlines


  • Knowledge of and experience with Ricoh machinery, specifically the Ricoh 8210s
