Hours of Work: 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday + 30 minutes Lunch Break (Commensurate with this position it will be necessary for hours to be worked outside the contracted hours as required by business needs.)

Our client is an industry leading Packaging manufacturer based in the North West who work with UK and International Blue Chip clients. Our client is looking to recruit an Operations Director with 3-5 years' experience of people management skills and process techniques to join their team.

In summary my client is looking for an energetic and dynamic individual, someone who is organised and structured in their approach and can bring fresh ideas to the business. Ideally the successful candidate will work in a Packaging or FMCG manufacturing environment, an engineering background would be advantageous

Scope of the Role
  • Key internal contacts - Senior Team, Production, Scheduling, Engineering, Quality Assurance, European Supply Chain, Purchasing, Origination, HR, External and Internal Sales and Finance Departments
  • Key external contacts - all Customers and all suppliers
  • KPI's - Health & Safety / Environment / Quality / Performance / Plant Maintenance / Machine Maintenance / Costs / Manning / Waste
  • Budgetary Responsibility

  • Responsible for 180 Direct Reports
  • Deputy responsibilities - All production managers
  • To plan, organise, direct and co-ordinate the activities and resources necessary for production workflow and maintenance of plant and equipment and support departments
  • Responsible for the management of the Print, Finishing, Quality and Maintenance Department
  • Monitor production and production costs and undertake or arrange for the preparation of reports and records
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions to improve cost, efficiency, quality and processes to increase competitiveness
  • Reviewing and approving plans for the control of planned output, budget spending, material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, and human resources
  • Ensure maintenance and improvement of overall reliability of equipment through applying appropriate maintenance systems
  • Initiate and execute projects
  • Ensure maintenance and improvement of hygiene and quality standards to achieve a neat and orderly environment
  • Keep up to date with technological and process developments and new market trends
  • Support the sales team on technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and Company regulations
  • Liaise with other Managers to control the location, storage, movement of Works in Progress and to plan overall production activity and daily manufacturing and maintenance activity
  • Establishing strong working relations with other functional Managers
  • Manage employment relations and consultation / negotiation processes with staff and their representatives to implement, on an ongoing basis, best working practises and operational methods in order to maintain business competitiveness
  • Monitor production costs and undertakes or arranges for the preparation of reports and records
  • Liaise with other members of the management team to overview and control staff absence
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and environmental legislative requirements
  • Define the optimum organisation structure and recruit, develop, motivate and manage a manufacturing team that maximises its performance potential and meets current and future business needs
  • Drawing up a production schedule
  • Working out the human and materials resources needed
  • Estimating how long a job will take, costing it, and setting the quality standards
  • Monitoring the production processes and adjusting schedules as needed
  • Supervising and motivating a team of workers
  • Maintain up to date ISO and BRC compliance documentation
  • Implementation of a KPI culture
  • Arrange for regular inspections of plant, machinery and equipment to detect wear or deterioration
  • You may be required to carry out any other tasks or duties which are reasonable given your role and skills

Projects outside the role of Operations Director:
  • Facilitate the introduction of World class manufacturing and lean awareness tools and techniques at both plants
  • Support development of continuous improvement teams at both plants
  • Support workforce in potential increasing their development to analyse problems
  • Timely execution, implementation and monitor review of projects

Managing Operations:
  • Setting clear objectives, introducing appropriate changes and improvements and maintaining quality of production and service
  • Identifying needs and establishing user requirements
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the service
  • Assessing the benefits or disadvantages of the proposed changes
  • Negotiating and agreeing areas of change
  • Ensuring appropriate resources are available
