DS Smith Uxbridge has a great opportunity for a Production Team Leader to support, organise and implement the Production activity at the depot to the highest standard.  The successful candidate will be hands on in unloading, sorting, processing and loading products handled by DS Smith Recycling as well as carrying out office based duties.

The role is absolutely key to ensuring production runs smoothly on site but will also provide assistance to the logistics department particularly in relation to out of core hour’s activity. It is important the successful candidate is not afraid to get “hands on” in the role and possess strong leadership qualities to drive through continuous improvement on site.

Hours are: 7 – 4 Mon/Thu  6 – 12 Friday

What being a Production Team Leader at DS Smith will involve…

The purpose of the role is to direct and support the production operatives to effectively meet site objectives that you be responsible for setting. As a Team Leader you play an important role in preparing and briefing the production operatives in their roles for the day in an organised manner. You will be responsible for a shift of operatives at a time so experience in managing people is essential.

This role covers a full range of activities, including:

• Ensuring the effective utilisation of Plant and Machinery to achieve maximum efficiency
• Achieving and maintaining production levels as defined within company targets
• Ensuring paper is stored according to grade and in a safe and secure manner
• Inspecting the outgoing and incoming loads for conformity to grade specification and customer / supplier requirements
• Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in the factory and production areas
• Liaising with both Depot Administrators and Head Office sales admin staff with regards to sales allocation and availability in the absence of Assistant Manager
• Ensuring the weighbridge is covered, particularly for out of core hours coverage, and to ensure all information is produced accurately
• Supporting the Transport Co-ordinator, with the running and maintaining of the fleet when required, in particular outside of core hours
• Ensuring that all new employees are provided with on the job training
• Assisting with the preparation of figures for inclusion in the month end accounts pack
• Liaising with the logistics department ensuring drivers are supported and supervised whilst loading and unloading at the depot and to ensure, particularly outside core hours, that all work is completed

The Candidate…


• Computer literate, with a grasp of Microsoft Office products
• Agreeing standards, enforcing & monitoring them & challenging shortfalls
• Leading and motivating individuals and small teams
• Communicating appropriately at all levels and handing over effectively
• Reporting in a timely and appropriate manner
• Knowledge of Health & Safety and understanding of the importance of H&S in the workplace
• Understanding of quality management systems
• Must have previous supervisory/management experience


• Experience in operating mobile plant/fixed plant
• FLT licence
• Transport planning experience
• Working knowledge of the Recycling industry
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
