DS Smith is looking for 2 x Operations Improvement Technicians to work within the Technical Department at our Paper Mill in Kemsley. You will be primarily focusing on supporting with routine testing and tasks across papermaking processes and final paper quality. This will cover both Pulp and Quality laboratories performing / organising routine maintenance and calibration of equipment, ensuring availability of equipment, ensuring laboratory consumables availability and ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained.

What aspects are involved in this role?

• Undertaking routine and adhoc testing of process, paper, box and core samples, recording / communicating results in an appropriate manner
• Providing support as required on process and product trials
• Performing various OTR & shut routine tasks across operational areas as detailed in department’s routines board updating as required
• Ensuring that all testing equipment in both wet and dry laboratories is in operational condition performing/organising maintenance and calibration using engineering requests as required
• Logging all calibration data and managing calibration certificates for wet and dry testing
• Providing training on use of equipment and test procedures to the required level
• Maintain product specification documentation
• Calibrating online quality and process equipment to ensure product and process conformity
• Being the Pulp and QC laboratory equipment super user
• Creating COA reports at agreed customer frequency
• Maintaining laboratory consumables and monitor consumable spend
• Assisting with identifying and maintaining Risk assessment and SSOW for department
• Reporting potential hazards to the environment and environmental incidents and assist with investigations as required

What we expect the candidate to have:
• Previous Lab technician experience or familiarity of carrying out repetitive routine testing
• Able to undertake routine testing & inspection of the process after training
• Able to work safely & unsupervised within the mill environment
• Basic English and Maths qualifications
• Good understanding in the use of Microsoft excel
• Paper/manufacturing experience would be an advantage
