Our DS Smith site in Clay Cross is searching for a Continuous Improvement FLM to take responsibility for the development and delivery of a world class site. What a Continuous Improvement Manager will be doing at DS Smith…

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Continuous Improvement Manager will lead initiatives and activities within the manufacturing areas. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Continuous Improvement with Lean manufacturing knowledge and Lean Sigma techniques. You will act as a change agent for leading and managing Continuous Improvement processes while instilling a culture of accountability. The list below is not exhaustive of the responsibilities of the Continuous Improvement Manager. 

•    Coordinate continuous improvement activities to ensure sustainable reduction of all onsite wastes and in particular reduce downtime and set up times.
•    Prioritisation of problem solving to develop our competitive advantage
•    Support the development of a culture which promotes daily problem elimination, whilst devising and  implementing improvements to systems, methods and procedures
•    Promote lean manufacturing principles (TPM, SMED 5S, VSM)
•    Develop employees through awareness programmes of the Lean Toolkit
•    Working closely and supporting all members of the operations team and other business functions and the wider continuous improvement network
•    Brainstorm and interact with departments to discuss potential ideas and develop tangible improvement plans
•    Introduce and implement Standard Work Routines and Best Practice
•    Introduce Root Cause Analysis as a daily tool
•    Promote efficiency and concern for standards
•    Delivery of strategic continuous improvement projects and programmes

The essentials:

•    Demonstrable knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
•    Green Belt or equivalent
•    Strong ability to communicate effectively, both on a verbal and written basis, at all levels of the business and with customers
•    Strong leadership ability
•    Demonstrate people management skills
•    Strong analytical skills
•    Excellent decision making skills
•    Exposure to change management processes
•    Communication/briefing skills
•    Project Management skills
•    Structured Problem solving skills
•    Numerical /Verbal reasoning skills at management norm
•    Self-motivated, pro-active, persistent and professional
•    Able to manage working under pressure and deal with conflict situations 
•    Computer literate; experience of using Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), as well as Minitab a distinct advantage

•    Hold a relevant professional qualification
•    Evidence of continuous learning and development during career
•    Knowledge and experience of a manufacturing environment; FMCG in particular
