DS Smith are looking an Electrical and Instrumentation Bias Engineer to join their busy maintenance team at the biggest Paper Mill in the UK. Joining a site of over 400 employees, you will be acting as a key member of the Engineering & maintenance team you will drive site wide performance through preventative maintenance initiatives and take ownership of faults and breakdowns, in a role which will see you as a front-line member of the team responding to emergencies when required. This position will challenge and engage you, requiring you to work on a vast amount of industry leading machinery and instruments. You will promote a continuous development mindset to work encouraging safe working at all times. This is a shift-based role, you will work 4 on, 4 off, 2 days and 2 nights followed by 17 days off every 8 weeks.

The Role

You will be required to use your electrical and instrumentation skills to complete preventative maintenance activities as well as resolving breakdown issues with minimal impact to production. You will be expected to enhance the engineering contribution to the manufacturing facility by improving machine reliability in such a way as to deliver good quality product at optimum running speeds and to finally be influential in the development of a culture in which departmental employees take ownership of the responsibility for machine performance.

Other duties will include:

  • Complete PMI routines when scheduled to do so
  • Interact, fault find, diagnose and repair PLC’s
  • Taking a proactive approach to SHE, 5s and housekeeping in all aspects of your role
  • Be accountable for carrying out duties and operating in a safe manner
  • Responding to breakdowns and emergencies across the entire site
  • Taking part in root cause problem solving meetings and have a continuous improvement attitude to your work
  • Ensure the upkeep of CMMS system
  • Compliance in line with safe working and environmental standards
  • General engineering administration, SSOW, PMIs and reports
  • Taking an active part in the delivery of capital and safety projects

    The Candidate

  • Qualified to minimum HNC level / apprentice trained in an Electrical discipline
  • Experience in a hands on role
  • Experience of working in a heavy manufacturing environment would be to your advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) in particular Siemens S7 & Alan Bradley would be an advantage
  • Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, intense environment
  • Experienced at fault finding on machines
  • Ability to write clear effective reports and procedures
  • Experienced in training others
