Subsequent to ambitious development and growth plans, our client, a leading specialist printer, is looking for a finance controller to come on board as a member of the Operations Leadership Team, having frequent interaction with other Senior Managers & Directors.  The Finance Controller will be responsible for leading the Management Accounts, Control and Reporting team based at their manufacturing facility. This is a Senior Management role which will not only report to the Chief Financial Officer, but work closely with this post holder to enhance the skills and professional qualifications of the finance team.  There will be the opportunity to significantly improve a range of finance processes and the need to select / implement a new ERP system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation, delivery and analysis of the monthly Management Accounts (P&L & Balance Sheet) across the group.  Prepare & comment on the summary reports presented to the Board.  Propose actions to improve business performance.
  • Direct monthly Balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Recognise, analyse, report & review sales through retail (own Company websites), trade customers and online marketplaces.
  • Manage and improve Cost of Sales reporting, analysis and control. Utilise the BOM model and expand to include direct production costs and indirect overheads. Perform regular stock takes.
  • Manage the Fixed Asset Register, purchases and disposals. 
  • Support the CFO in completing capital appraisals/business cases on major initiatives and capital expenditure.
  • Manage the Company bank accounts, cash receipts, payments and business loans.
  • Ensure effective credit control and debtor management.
  • Deliver effective management & control of the purchase ledger, invoice processing and supplier payments.
  • Review, update and implement the process for intercompany transactions and recharges.
  • Prepare and submit the Company VAT returns.
  • Ensure the application of appropriate Accounting Standards and Best Practice.
  • Support the CFO in delivering timely statutory filings, HMRC, Companies House, etc
  • Together with the CFO collaborate with Directors & Senior Managers to create and effectively manage the annual budget.
  • Work with CFO to improve financial forecasting, planning and analysis including budgeting, expenditure and cashflow.
  • Strengthen the business partnering opportunities within Operations.
  • Lead, manage and develop the finance team

Skills/Attributes Required:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA professional qualification with demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles and standards.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing business as a Management Accountant is preferred.
  • Excellent and demonstrable excel skills.
  • Experience in managing cash, expenditure and credit control.
  • Experience in using a ‘fit for purpose’ ERP system.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Planning and organisation skills to be able to manage time appropriately
  • Ability to work under pressure and with others to meet tight deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and skilled communicator
  • Ability to think commercially and use financial data to make business-wide decisions
