Our client is a successful Events and Exhibitions company based in the North West. With a turnover of over £20 million they offer a complete range of in-house services from design, build through to on-site project management and installation.

They are currently looking to recruit a Head of Design. The Head of Design is ultimately responsible for overseeing the development and of visuals and creative assets, and act as a mentor, continuously upskilling the team to meet the highest standards of design and production.

A highly creative individual and inspiring people leader, the Head of Design is responsible for managing external Freelancers and a team of in-house Designers, leading on the briefing process alongside the planning and delivery of visual assets.

Assets will include 3D visuals, 2D CAD planning, detailed working and production drawings, art working PDFs, bespoke digital documents, images, infographics, and social posts. You will be required to develop and maintain positive and progressive relationships both internally and externally across multiple functions and work closely with the Head of Projects role to ensure a smooth process from Sales through to delivery.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Relevant years' experience in event and exhibition design and 3D visualisation
  • Exceptional organisational, planning and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional people-leader skills
  • Exceptional creative skills and hands-on experience of 3D and 2D design, art working and editing tools.
  • Experience in managing creative content.
  • Audience-focused and insights-led approach to production
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network with and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Able to think fast and work quickly under pressure.
  • A self-starter with the ability to take the initiative.
  • Courageous and willing to provide constructive challenge to senior leadership.
  • Embraces innovation and has a learning mindset.

Responsibilities / Requirements:

  • Ability to manage and motivate both employed and freelance Designers - this will include brief allocation and ensuring all work is carried out within agreed timeframes and to a high-quality standard.
  • Ability to show the full range of designing process, from low to high budget projects.
  • Qualities in liaising with fellow colleagues and clients to develop designs to suit all budgets and locations.
  • Presentation ability, either in person, video link or electronic transfer.
  • Experience to interpret clients' briefs and feedback accordingly.
  • Confident in using design software including 3D and AutoCAD as well as the full Adobe suite.
  • Technical skills and understanding to construct complicated or multi-level structures.
  • Be happy to work as part of a team, sharing the designs with others and being able to accept input from other members of the team.
  • Liaise with show organisers and clients around the world to understand rules & regulations and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Successfully managing the relationships with all stakeholders, internal and external.
