Our client is a multi-award winning commercial web offset printer specialising in printing, magazines, catalogues, and brochures. As a key part of a larger Group, an independently owned parent company, they offer products and services based around news and information. Together they inform, educate, and delight, their significant audiences each and every week.

As part of their continual growth strategy, they are currently seeking a Production Manager to join their established team. As a Production Manager, you will work closely with the Operations Team and report directly to the Operations Director, managing safe working practices and OEE performance targets. This exciting and rewarding role will require a high level of commitment and flexibility to deliver targets in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What will you do?

  • Support the Operations Team in the implementation of organisational initiatives and to operate as a cohesive team ensuring consistent communication and work practices and standards.
  • Work pro-actively as part of the management and leadership team to maximise added value and profitability across the plant including the Bindery.
  • Champion the implementation of lean, cost effective and performance driven production activity taking ownership of a designated shift.
  • Act as an agent of change, using an understanding of the strategic goals, to help drive the business forward including effectively communicating with the workforce championing change, challenging existing culture and work methods and driving sleek operational practice.
  • Undertake a thorough and detailed shift hand over with the outgoing Production Manager regarding the current status of the schedule, plant availability and any maintenance and workforce / resourcing issues. Ensure any corrective actions are promptly performed.
  • Ensure that the work scheduled for the designated shift is achieved within the planned timescales and where possible any improvements on performance optimisation are achieved.
  • Work closely with all departments, engaging positively and effectively when required.
  • 100% focus on improving H&S in the workplace, observing working practices and acting pro-actively to reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Provide accessible, visible leadership presence across all production areas including the bindery.
  • Drive agreed KPI's and output targets across all shifts.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with Health and Safety legislation, HR policies and procedures and safe systems of work when managing the designated shift. Take immediate remedial action for any Health and Safety breaches or acts of misconduct reporting and escalating problems immediately.
  • Day to day management of the shift on all issues including performance management, holidays, training needs, absence management, conduct and conflict management, recruitment, and shift planning.
  • At the end of each shift to create an accurate log that reflects the overall performance of the shift when required.
  • Produce and review daily/weekly/monthly performance reports/KPI reports to identify trends of performance output by manufacturing cell and Operator.
  • Compile and maintain a detailed skills matrix for all staff on your designated shift taking into account trainee operators and apprentices to identify and react accordingly to develop and sustain a robust succession plan.
  • Conduct annual appraisals, for all direct reports, as per the performance framework.
  • Undertake project work, when requested, with other team members selected from across the company, with the objective of improving the overall efficiency and driving business results.
  • Support and take ownership of investigations in to Internal and External Quality complaints, with the desire and focus to respond in a timely and respectful manner.
