Summary of required Experience:

    Relevant experience from a large-scale manufacturing/processing environment.

    Previous experience of steam generation and or pressure vessels is essential.


Job Purpose:

To support the activities of the Area Engineering Maintenance function with specific responsibility for site wide generation and distribution of utilities.  

Liaise with and support other Engineering functions and provide technical expertise and support, as necessary.


The primary focus of the role is also to:


    Champion and facilitate the adoption of lean manufacturing techniques

    Embed a continuous improvement culture

    Ensure the effective utilisation and cost optimisation of all resources

    Proactively plan and engage with other departments to ensure a collaborative approach and effective resolution of issues

    Drive through performance improvements to support Quality, Cost and Delivery

    Empower your team to have the ability and commitment to achieve KPI’s, resolve issues and optimise performance through coaching, training and         effective delegation.

Dimensions:

    Performance manages direct and indirect resources to support the area (this includes ETP and CHP operators)

    Budget responsibility for the area.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Always act and behave in a way compliant with all company guidelines, policies and procedures, especially those relating to             Environmental Health and Safety and Code of Business Principles.

    Ensure  all reports are appropriately managed and have up to date/accurate job description; PDRs, SMART objectives linked to business objectives; regular reviews of performance and development needs to enhance performance and capability; motivated and engaged and behave in accordance with     the Company's values.

    Foster networks across the Company business, to create positive synergies that break down functional silos.

    Identify, justify and undertake and/or manage projects designed to improve methods, productivity and efficiency as and when required.  These should be carried out using a structured project management approach.

    Liaise with contractors and suppliers to maximise contract value and added value support.

    Responsible for the effective selection, training and development of employees in both the ETP and CHP.

    Work with Planning, as necessary, to achieve the annual maintenance and cost targets required by the budget or other operational targets which are revised as necessary.

    Responsibility for ensuring a safe and healthy workplace including the promotion of the health and safety standards and the Company’s health and safety

management systems and any relevant initiatives, ensuring that they are understood and applied by all personnel within the department.

    Assist in the preparation of the annual departmental operating and capital budgets and undertake regular reviews to ensure that costs are maintained within budget and all necessary purchasing procedures are followed.

    Maintain statutory compliance with Regulating Authorities, ISO 14001 ,PSSR and EA

    Ensure relevant data is maintained and presented to Regulating Authorities in a way that maximises financial and environmental benefit to Company

    Provide the Site with an adequate supply of steam, water, compressed air and electricity within agreed budgets and standards of operation.

    Represent the site in managing and reducing the energy required to produce a quality product

    Develop a preventative and predictive maintenance culture, implementing best practice maintenance regimes.

    Actively support all other areas of the Mill as required to support overall business objectives and meet production needs.

    Build networks with key customers and other engineering departments to ensure required service levels are achieved.

    Maintain statutory compliance within overall responsibilities and keep abreast of current legislation.

    Manage time and attendance of direct reports.

    Communicate to your team in a style that reflects a level of professionalism and supports business objectives.

    Utilise structured problem-solving techniques to improve plant reliability.  Set up and lead by example the standard required for the department.

    Seek to continuously improve your area of responsibilities to drive change using innovative ideas and new technologies.

    Utilise KPI’s to measure the effectiveness of their area of responsibility.

    Responsible for airing and implementing daily/weekly and long-term plans for the area working closely with Planning and Reliability departments.

Qualifications and Experience:

    Relevant experience from a large-scale manufacturing/processing environment.

    Previous experience of steam generation and or pressure vessels is essential.

    Previous experience of Carbon reduction legislation is an advantage.

    Problem-solving experience, i.e. qualifications equivalent to 6-Sigma yellow belt level.

    Previous people management experience and the ability to demonstrate effective performance management.

    Relevant health and safety qualification (for example, IOSH Managing Safely) is desirable.

    Ability to implement and drive change through engagement.

    Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organisation.

    Ability to multi-task and react to changing priorities in a pressurised environment.

    Ability to take a flexible and collaborative approach.

    Can demonstrate a readiness to take accountability and have high ownership of an area.
